Brix Taphouse – Best Jacksonville Beach Bars

From the outside brick structure and darkened windows, one might think Brix Taphouse would be a dark and dingy bar, but you would be mistaken. Indoors, the bar is wide open and light, a friendly and approachable bar and restaurant style place with a dance floor and plenty of room to move about and a playful patio area that always seems to be full of happy revelers that want to have a great time. Having made the switch from “bar” to “bar and restaurant”, Brix Taphouse is much more family orientated than you may have known in the past, come have weekend brunch and enjoy one of the best cinnamon rolls you’ll ever have.

Our Thoughts on the Brix Taphouse

Our first encounter with Brix Taphouse was standing next to it when the long lines for one of the Jax Beach music venues wrapped around the blocks. We saw how enjoyable the place looked and then when we later found out it went through a major kitchen renovation and serves some of the best food in Jax Beach, we knew we had to pay another visit. Cold beer on tap flows freely, and the cocktails are tasty and potent, but the food menu took our breath away.

Expecting standard “pub fare” we could hardly suppress our “wow” when we were served upscale restaurant quality food that looked great and tasted even better. The entrees were great but next time we come, we’d be happy snacking on the variety of appetizers and enjoying a few drinks. The Mayport Boomers were succulent and crisp, their “Blood and Smoke” cocktail was the best Tequila Sunrise we’ve ever tasted. Brix Taphouse is a must-try Jax beach bar.

Mango’s Beach Bar – Best Jacksonville Beach Bars

Mango’s 2.0 is another of those classic Jax Beach landmark icons that transcend time and space. When the entire strip went through a transformation, Mango’s Beach Bar came through and survived because it knew what the local citizens of Jax Beach wanted; a great bar hangout that didn’t pretend to be something it’s not. Mango’s revels in its description as a “dive bar” because they know dive bars are the place the locals come back to time and time again. The atmosphere is friendly, fun, and familiar. The beer is cold, the conversations are happy, and the bar is always open.

Our Thoughts on the Mango’s Beach Bar

Cruising up and down 1st Street at Jax Beach, we always knew the patrons at Mango’s Beach Bar would be there partying and living it up. Today Mango’s 2.0 maintains the traditions of the old familiar neighborhood beach bar. The pool table has been re-felted, the jukebox has been upgraded, but when we stepped into Mango’s and ordered a beer, it was like nothing had changed. The wonderful feeling of coming home to the community bar is all a part of what Mango’s is.

You can enjoy the shaded comfort of the indoor bar or enjoy the cool ocean breeze on the deck and patio. The addition of karaoke nights on Wednesday and Sunday nights keeps the place full of happy patrons, and the inclusion of food trucks next to the patio means the menu is always revolving. Embrace your local beach dive bar and come to Mango’s 2.0, the same beach bar that’s been a staple of the Jax Beach community since the 1950s!

Our Thoughts on the Landshark Bar & Grill

Take a trip in the way, way back machine, this little patch of land was once our favorite watering hole, not much more than a shack with a bar named “John’s Garage”. Now we come into the present and on this same lot is the fabulous Margaritaville Beach Hotel and the attached LandShark Bar & Grill. Big time names and big time action. Upstairs is the LandShark Lookout, a great place for beach watching and kicking back with a brew to watch the waves roll in.

Downstairs is the Landshark Bar & Grill proper, with full restaurant menu, well-stocked bar, and more beach-themed atmosphere than if you were seated in the sand itself. The clean and open floorplan makes for a nice place to feel the winds off the ocean, smell the salt in the air while still remaining out from under the blazing sun. When you need to take a breather at Jax Beach, step indoors to LandShark Bar & Grill.

Our Thoughts on the Lynch’s Irish Pub

We’ve been coming to Lynch’s Irish Pub since before the pier was relocated to 4th Ave, since before the redecoration of the pint glasses on the ceiling were dollar bills hanging down, Lynch’s has been a local favorite since before most of us can remember, and it promises to remain as such through their dedication to being “that place” where you want to go hang out. The food menu rivals any other Irish Pub in town, the drinks flow fast and frothy, and the general atmosphere is that of friendship and family.

We became acquainted with Lynch’s through their participation in local first responder events, and have remained a loyal patron because it’s easy to love a bar that loves you back. No matter if your tastes run as simple as a “Guinness and Jameson” or if you’re the sit and sip over wine and fancier cocktails type, Lynch’s Irish Pub is that great local spot where everyone comes together and forms a community that is more than the sum of its parts. Sláinte!

Surfer The Bar – Best Jacksonville Beach Bars

Forever regarded as the final word on the sport, Surfer Magazine has branched out to bring food, drinks, and entertainment to the Hawaiian beach, then Jax Beach opened Surfer The Bar as the first on the American mainland. Come inside this popular spot and enjoy some refreshing food, fantastic drinks, and some surf-inspired atmosphere so you can get out of the sun and reinvigorated before heading back out to where the water meats the sand. Light and breezy food, VIP bottle service, live music and great location makes Surfer The Bar a great perfect watering hole when you’re at Jax Beach.

Our Thoughts on the Surfer The Bar

Everyone was disappointed that Freebird Live closed, but when Surfer The Bar took its place, we were happy to see that the tradition of showcasing local musicians would carry on with this new decor. Surfer life at Jax Beach is a large part of the culture and Surfer The Bar understands that. Their food menu [The Grinds] is full of light fare, simple bar foods but served light and fresh from an old Airstream camper. Tacos, nachos, rice bowls, and a Ramen Burrito.

Multiple bars means fewer lines for those sweet concoctions and crafted cocktails. Plenty of draft options for beer but what we liked the most was the deep menu of tequila options. We had our own tequila tasting event at our table that went on into well into the evening trying several flavors that we hadn’t experienced before. Our time at Surfer The Bar was enjoyable, friendly, and made us feel like we were regular patrons though it was our first, but certainly not our last, time in the bar.

The Ritz- Best Jacksonville Beach Bars

Too many bars are searching for that delicate balance of food and drink while remaining approachable to everyone in the family. Not The Ritz at Jax Beach. This place knows what it is, what is wants to be, and why you’re here. Pool tables, dart board, loud music, deep bar, and a dance floor that sees regular action with live DJ spinning the night away.

You may get some of the standard bar snacks like peanuts and popcorn, but The Ritz isn’t in the restaurant business, they are in the bar business and they are doing exceedingly well at keeping their patrons happy.

Our Thoughts on the The Ritz

What a relief it was to step into The Ritz at Jax Beach. Not that any other locations were better or worse, just that we instantly felt like The Ritz had their game together by offering a true “bar” experience.

A few games of 9-ball and couple stiff drinks from the friendly staff behind the bar and we knew this was going to be a great night. As the evening rolled on, more people came in and the place filled up nicely. The music kept everyone moving and grooving, and the atmosphere shifted from laid-back beach bar to one more suited to a large city nightclub.

You won’t mistake this place for a Miami hotspot, but it’s not because the place isn’t jumping, it’s because the prices are reasonable and the people are friendly. We saw the staff making sure to keep the guests safe with stringent door policy and because you knew you were carefree, it was easy to cut loose.

Graffiti Junktion- Best Jacksonville Beach Bars

This Orlando and Central Florida bar and burger chain that is so good, it had to expand and come to Jacksonville Beach! Our location on 3rd Street and 5th Ave lives up to the franchise standard of feeling local no matter where you are. The sign reads “Graffiti Burger Bar” but this Graffiti Junktion location has all the hospitality and tasty food you’ve come to expect if you know the chain from their central Florida roots.

The wall murals celebrating the Jaguars and the hometown “Duuuuval” crowd are interspersed with large televisions broadcasting the game, no matter which game you’re interested in, odds are you can watch it here with a tasty burger in hand.

Our Thoughts on the Graffiti Junktion

Summers at Jacksonville Beach can get a little too warm to enjoy your meal outdoors, and Graffiti Junktion Burger Bar at Jax Beach has you covered. The “outdoor” patio seating is covered to shield you from the sun and the large overhead doors can be closed during the select days where it actually gets too cold to sit outdoors.

The menu appeared small and simple, but the sign out front does tell you what you’re here for; a burger bar. The tot option instead of fries is a great replacement, and the nachos literally fill an entire serving tray. On the weekends they serve a modified brunch that includes breakfast items and bottomless mimosas.

The bar offers typical bottles and taps, with friendly bartenders at the ready making Graffiti Junktion a great spot to swing by for a few drinks and some good eats before or after a long day at the beach.

The Shim Sham Room- Best Jacksonville Beach Bars

This place has it all; the food, toe drinks, the atmosphere, and the staff to make it all work together. The menu is short, after all you’re not here for fine dining, but it is far from typical bar food. Hand-helds and finger foods, sandwiches and appetizers, each better than the last.

The drink menu is much more robust but still retains a simplicity. The Shim Sham Room offers you the finest of food and drinks, and then serves it to you in a bar where the staff creates an atmosphere of irreverent but friendly humor, always looking to make sure you are having a great time.

Our Thoughts on the The Shim Sham Room

Old enough to remember this address as the legendary music venue Einstein-a-Go-Go, we may be showing our age here… But the Shim Sham Room lives up to the monumental responsibility of occupying this legendary location with the attitude and grit that feels like home.

The food menu is short but chock full of delicious options for dining out at the bar. In fact, if you’re in a large party there is an “I’ll have the menu” option with the caption “You know you always wanted to!” That sums up Shim Sham’s sense of humor. The drink offerings have plenty of beer on tap, bottles, and cocktails listed under “the fancy drinks”, again with their sensibility.

This place has friendly and approachable staff, a floor full of patrons having a great time, and though it is entirely different looking, and offering some fine cocktails, I’m transported back to when this building made many people in Jacksonville feel warm and welcome within its walls, The Shim Sham Room is a new friend!

The Wreck- Best Jacksonville Beach Bars

A tiki lounge in name and spirit, The Wreck Tiki Bar Lounge is one of those local beach bars that plays by their own rules and tosses out any of the preconceived notions of how things are “supposed” to be.

Always buzzing with activity, the Wreck is a great spot to stop in out of the sun as you step off the sand for a refreshment or two, or an excellent place to park yourself for the day watching people amble about up and down the beach as you people-watch in comfort and with a cold brew or rum cocktail in your hand.

Our Thoughts on the The Wreck

Third Ave and 1st St has always been at the heart of the Jacksonville Beach nightlife scene, through many re-inventions, this remains true to this day. Four bars on the alley, each defining themselves from the others to attract their audience. The Wreck throws away all ideas of definition and welcomes anyone looking to have a great time.

We stepped into the lounge and immediately sensed the party vibe of the bar with bar games and activities, live music, and cold drinks passing to and fro. The beer options are good and the spirits are plenty. There is hardly anything exotic here at The Wreck but if you come looking for cold drinks and hot times you will not be disappointed.

The cocktails were tasty and the beach front scenery is fantastic but the staff makes this beach bar stand out among the rest as they are certainly having a great time and that translates to smiles on our faces as well.

Flask and Cannon- Best Jacksonville Beach Bars

One block north from the pier, and one block east from the water’s edge, you’ll find one of Jacksonville Beaches’ greatest tiki bars. Flask and Cannon represents the quiet hideaway bar you’d like to hang out and escape the hectic throngs of beach-goers and the assaulting sun while imbibing lusciously sweet rum drinks for the afternoon.

Fresh hot pizza is available from the attached restaurant and the beer menu is overflowing with cold brews. Step into the shaded world of Flask and Cannon and take a well deserved break. The initial experience will have you coming back to the beach just for the bar!

Our Thoughts on the Flask and Cannon

We’d come to think of “tiki bar” as a thing of the past, the elaborate drinks and outlandish concoctions served in flaming bowls brings to mind the folly of the 1950’s. But Flask and Cannon manages to represent the better pieces of this puzzle while bringing new definition to tiki bar as a warm and inviting location to get out of the sun, enjoy a sweet drink or two before emerging back out to enjoy more beach life.

Local craft breweries supply plenty of beer options and the walls behind the bar are stocked with some of the widest expanses of rum we’ve seen from a local bar. You can get your rum cocktail served in a hollow pineapple with umbrellas and frilly decorations, or you can get a simple shot in a simple glass. No matter what your drinking preference, Flask and Cannon at Jacksonville Beach is a great corner beach front bar that we plant to revisit often.
